Reviewing a business notice
Before paying or replying to an unfamiliar business notice, identify the sender and verify what is being requested.

- Keep the notice. Retain the complete message or letter, any envelope and the date received.
- Check the entity. Confirm that the registered name and any file number match your business.
- Identify the sender. Is it an agency, your registered agent, a known provider or a private solicitation?
- Verify independently. Locate the agency or provider through a known website or established contact, rather than relying only on a link or telephone number in the notice.
- Record dates. Note the stated date and the requested action. If timing is urgent, use your established service or professional channel.
- Check before paying. Identify the payee, purpose and source of any amount requested. Ask questions if those details are unclear.
- Assign follow-up. Record who will confirm the next action. Keep the response or payment receipt with the notice.
